welcome

From the Head Teacher,
Mrs Heather Curry

Welcome to Dunton Lower School!

A very warm welcome and thank you for visiting the web site of Dunton VC Church of England Lower School. We hope you enjoy this glimpse of the work of our school. We always enjoy having visitors to our school and would love to see you in person, so why not come along some time.

Our school is situated in the village of Dunton, which is approximately three miles from the market town of Biggleswade, in Bedfordshire. The school dates back to Victorian times and was originally built in 1858.

We are a small village school that caters for children aged 4+ to 9 years. Currently we have three large, airy classrooms to cater for Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Foundation Stage children. We have small classes with a high adult to child ratio.

Dunton School is Federated with Wrestlingworth VC Church of England Lower School which is another small village school within three miles of Dunton. Federation means that the schools share a headteacher and are governed by the same governing body. Teachers work together and joint activities take place between the schools. Both schools are judged as outstanding by Ofsted.

The school is very much a part of the village community and has close links with the local church, St Mary Magdalene. The vicar, Rev. Lindsay Dew visits the school on a weekly basis to take collective worship. The governors of the school are very supportive and we have an extremely active Parents and Friends Association, which supports the school and is responsible for organising many fund-raising events.

At Dunton we foster a happy, caring and family atmosphere. We believe that each individual is special and encourage all to achieve their full potential. We encourage the children to be well mannered at all times and to be respectful both towards each other and adults.
